Benefits of Cycling

It’s true when they say you never forget how to ride a bike. Well, you should never forget all of the reasons you should be riding one. Sure, cycling is fun, it’s exercise, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. However, there are many other benefits of cycling. Not only is cycling good for your health, but it can help you live a much happier, healthier life. Cycling is one of the most rewarding and popular sports in the world. Many people cycle as a sport, for recreation, as their commute, and for exercise. Here are the top benefits of cycling.

Promotes weight loss

When it comes to losing weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. Cycling is a great way to burn calories. Depending on the intensity and weight of a specific cyclist, cycling can burn between 400 and 1,000 calories per hour. Of course, other factors determine how many calories you burn while cycling. This includes how often you cycle, the food you consume, and the amount of sleep you get each night.

Good exercise has repeatedly been linked to brain health and the reduction of cognitive changes that can leave you to develop dementia later in life. It has been said that during exercise, a cyclist’s blood flow increases by 28 percent and up to 70 percent in certain areas. Not to mention after exercise, in some areas, blood flow remained up by 40 percent even after getting some exercise in. Biking to work or to the market only makes you smarter. While it won’t necessarily turn you into an astrophysicist overnight, however, daily exercise has been proven to prevent cognitive decline, sharpen your memory and learning, and overall improving brain performance.

Saves time

Cycling wherever you need to go saves you so much time. Think of how much time it takes to get in the car, sitting in traffic, finding a parking spot, etc. What if you have to take the bus or train? A lot of times, you end up being late to your final destination when you decide to resort to the bus or train. It makes so much more sense to simply hop on your bike and filter past any and all traffic to arrive where you need to be in a timely fashion.

Saves money

Cycling saves time and money!

Not only does cycling save time, but it saves money as well. If you cycle to work instead of driving a car, you can save a ton of money. Seeing as to how bikes don’t require fuel to run, this can end up saving you a lot of money if you biked every single day to work. Another way to save money by cycling is how cheap bikes are compared to cars. Instead of making a huge car payment, buy a bike outright in cash. Not only will you not have to buy gas anymore, but the cost of maintenance will be worlds cheaper than a vehicle.

Better sleep

It’s no secret that when you wear yourself out, you rest better at nighttime. Well, people who do some type of exercise during the day, such as cycling, have much better sleep at night. Scientists aren’t sure what exactly is the cause, but it’s been said that the reduction in anxiety, brought about by exercising, elevates the ability to sleep. Cycling also helps protect against weight gain with age, which is another very common cause of insomnia or sleep dysfunction.

Makes you happy

Cycling just makes you happier in general. When doing something that you love, you automatically are much happier. Cycling wherever you need to go can completely transform your day. It’s essentially like a moderate form of therapy. Daily exercise, such as cycling, can reduce stress, relax you, alleviate symptoms of depression, and improve anxiety. All of these things can in turn make you a much happier person.

Make new friends

Cycling is a very sociable activity. When cycling, you get to meet new friends who enjoy doing the same thing. There are also cycling clubs and groups that is a great way to meet new people and share your love for the sport. Just think, if you’re new to riding, you can find all the maintenance and training advice you need at one of the groups. Cycling not only gets you out of the house, but it gets you out of your shell if you’re having trouble meeting and connecting with people.
